Industrial Controls & Automation Engineer (Plant Modernization)

Are you an innovative Electrical or Controls Engineer with a passion for modernizing legacy manufacturing equipment? Our Springfield, MO plant is undergoing a technology transformation, and we need an expert to upfit outdated machines, integrate modern automation, and network systems for real-time data collection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the upgrade and integration of existing industrial equipment with modern electrical controls, PLC programming, and automation technologies.
- Design and implement networked control systems for remote troubleshooting, real-time data collection, and predictive maintenance.
- Develop and modify electrical circuits, control panels, and PLC/HMI programs to improve efficiency, reliability, and usability.
- Ensure data visibility by connecting machines to SCADA, MES, or IoT platforms for enhanced monitoring and analytics.
- Troubleshoot and optimize legacy machines, identifying ways to streamline and simplify their operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop solutions that improve uptime, efficiency, and ease of programming.
- Manage project timelines, cost estimates, and technical feasibility studies for equipment upgrades.
- Oversee system safety compliance, reliability testing, and quality assurance for all automation upgrades.
Key Skills & Experience:
✅ Electrical & Controls Engineering – 3+ years designing and implementing PLC, HMI, and automation solutions (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.).
✅ Machine Upfitting & Systems Integration – Experience modernizing old manufacturing equipment to enhance automation, ease of programming, and data capture.
✅ Networking & Remote Troubleshooting – Familiarity with industrial networking (and remote access tools.
✅ Data & Reporting – Ability to connect machines for real-time analytics.
✅ Lean/Continuous Improvement – Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement frameworks.
Bonus Skills (Preferred, but Not Required):
- Experience with motion control systems, robotics, or AI-driven predictive maintenance.
- Background in belt/rubber manufacturing or motion control components.
- Exposure to IoT/Industry 4.0 applications in manufacturing.
